Hi Ladies,

I am new to this all and I am not sure if I am posting in the correct forum. My name is Joy and as I said I am new to this ALL....from first time investor to posting. I am looking for a group in the South Jersey area.  I am trying to become financially independent but  because of some "bad" debt that my husband recently got us into my credit rating is bad! I know, I know, I should have been aware of what my husband was or wasn't doing to get us where we are now, its called trust and I trusted he was handling things. Anyway, now here I am, I was just recently told that I could no longer use a particular charge card even though it was in my name only because of the bad credit standing that my husband is in. I was shocked! Though, I am now looking at it as a blessing to have taken the card away - I had no balance on it.  By the way, you all must be wondering how I found out that we are in the pickle we are in. I took advantage of the "free credit check" you see from time to time....I had all 3 credit agencies do a free check. That is how I found out that we were at least 2 months behind on a car payment and worse yet, one month behind on a home equity line of credit from a Credit Union. So with this all being said, please, someone tell me how do I - MYSELF - become independent financially with this looming over my head? How do I and only I get credit in my own name without his debt stepping in, short of a divorce .
