As Suzi Orman would say - do not touch your 401(k). Why? Because the penalties amd taxes will eat up the amount - and you will not receive the full amount.
From what I know about the IRA, as I had one from work, one can only take out the amount that one put into the contribution, not the match from your emloyer.
